Rockin the Look

As most of you know already I'm going blind... I have SARDS (Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome). This typically shows up in we dogs affected with this disease at 5 years of age.  (Yups I'm 5 years old).  We're trying a drug treatment to try and arrest my vision loss, but there's no guarantees there. Mom and Dad have gotten better with the idea of this. Which is a good thing as I'm doing well with everything. We dogs are an adaptable lot aren't we?

My hikes through my woods and fields had become a bit less adventurous due to my dogtors and pawrents concerns of my sustaining an eye injury due to my poor vision. Well let me tell you that's no longer a concern. My doggy glasses have arrived. Mom got me two different pair in two different styles. Mom and Dad say I rock the look. BOL What do you guys think? Me, I'm simply glad I can go back to my walks and hikes through my forest and fields. Although if this warm weather keeps up I'll bet the long hikes are going to be over as those pesky, nasty ticks will be out. Mom says she never wants to experience Rocky Mnt. Tick Fever ever again. Honestly I don't either as I didn't have my Mom for a sidekick for about 6 months.

I truly appreciate the kind words of support and concern from all my friends and furiends. My blog and inbox have been overwhelmed (as well as my Mom and I) with well wishes. We can't tell you what our new Blogville furiends and friends mean to us.  It touches our hearts deeply knowing we're not going through this alone. Thank you for again for your support and friendship.

Love,

Molly and My Mom (dealing w SARDS one day at a time)

Mom did a collage  or composite of me in my new Sun Glasses.  (She and Dad say I totally "Rock the Look" .  You can see for yourselves here.

Molly, you look super cute with those glasses, and both pairs are very chic. I think the first pair is perfect for exploring and the other one for going into town.

Hi Molly! Those are some trendy glasses--you look fabulous. We know you won't let a little thing like not seeing affect your adventures too much.

Molly, you really do totally rock those glasses! So, here are my words of encouragement to your Mom, cause I know you already have a good handle on your loss of sight and are, I am sure, adjusting like a champion. Because animals rely on their other senses so much more than humans, they seem to do better when they lose one of those senses. My first schnauzer went blind at 5. At the time we thought it might be a Cushing's tumor, but looking back it may have been SARDS. She was almost totally blind by the time I realized it - it was when we were at someone else's house and she was out in the sunshine in their yard. I freaked. Freda lived to be 11, and lack of sight, while on a few rare occasions caused a fall, was never an obstacle to her. She continued to lead the way on our walks through woods and fields, she maintained her position as alpha dog in our household, even with numerous boarders coming to live with us for short times, and no visitor ever guessed she couldn't see. One thing I did notice was it seemed that she could see just a little during dusk. In any case, all this to say that I am sure Molly will do just fine and you will soon forget that she is any (or much) different than before she lost her sight.

OMD! You look so ultra cool and bad Dawg in those shades! And it looks like wearing them doesn't bother you either so that is wonderful. Yes, we doggies are adaptable so we hope your pawrents learn that soon!

Your Pals,

Murphy and Stanley
