Spring Tease or Only a Memory

Well as many of you know I haven't been on many walks here lately.  Mom with her toe issues and the horrible weather we've had recently. Tabby cat would come in at night telling me of all his wonderful finds and exploits from the day. It made me a little blue and caused me to miss my walkies.

Today I fell asleep in the warm sunshine coming in the French doors and found myself transported into a late spring memory.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This morning was my day dear furiends.  The sun was shining the birds were singing and the sky a marvelous shade of blue.  It really was a beautiful day.  (It could be partially due to the fact that my Mom/the prison guard had refused to let me out for my daily exercise time.)
I took my usual route down the drive and across the hay field and went down my favorite trail into the deep woods.  The burnt gold of the spent pine needles seeming to glow in the mid-day sun.  The whoosh, whoosh of the buzzards wings over head searching for their next meal causing me to look above.  As I was standing still taking in all the sounds of the forest I noticed the steady chirping of the frogs in the creek.  It seemed  spring had come while I’d been confined due to Mom's Boo Boo toe and the inclement weather.
I snuffed and sniffed with new enthusiasm my tail giving a happy wag every now and then.  I glanced back at my Mom, my tongue lolling to one side ears cocked and listening for her words.  There it is, what I’ve been wanting to hear, “Molly let’s go”.  That’s the ok for head down the path Molly.  I take off like a demon is on my tail.  I tell you pawfuriends I had to make up for lost time.  I ran here and snuffed there
I went down the trail and then looked at Mom giving her the sign I wanted to go up the trail to the creek.   She says, "O.K. Molly lets go".  OOOH I was having a truly wonderful day.  We walked and walked and I sniffed and sniffed.  I found soo many amazing,  interesting things to smell.  I ran and jumped over the fallen trees in the path.  I looked at the birds flying through the woods fussing at us for disturbing their forest.  The squirrels were doing their teasing dance from one tree to the other, flicking their tails knowing I can only chase them but so far.
I climbed though the brambles and sniffed in the thickets time having no meaning today;  the sun getting higher and the temperatures getting warmer.  Mom  takes off her jacket as we continue to explore my woods.  I find a fox den in my investigations.  It must now be out of use as there were no fresh scents to drive a little weenie dog wild with excitement.
Back onto the path we go having to crawl under dead trees that have fallen in the wind storms we’ve recently had, over other trees that have made their trips to the ground; this Dachshund jumping over the dead trees agile as a deer.
My patrol coming to an end, we make the trip up the hayfield.  I don't  want it to end, running to smell around this hay bale and the other ones too.   The grass in the hay field beginning to turn green once again;   making new places to snuff for the field mice that love to hide there.  We get closer and closer to the driveway going home.  I let out a little ~sigh~ Play time is coming to an end dear furiends.
I run as fast as my little weenie legs can carry me down the drive, only stopping to pick up my little prickly  Gum Ball toy that I find under the huge Sweet Gum tree.  I make a mad dash, jump and twirl with my toy in my mouth, my feet barely touching the ground.  (I glance at my Mom, she’s got that silly smile on her face that tells me I’m the luckiest little Dachshund on this earth)  She tells me Molly you’re one crazy girl.
Up the steps we go and it’s not long before I have my lunchtime snack and take a lonnng nap in the sunshine coming in the French doors.
I hope your day was as wonderful as mine, even if it's just a memory.
Love, Molly  and my Mom
