Mourning Vicki Tankersley

There were serious storms forecast the morning Mom and I saw a post made by our dear friend Angel Foley concerning the loss of a famous pet blogger Mom, Vicki Tankersley.  She and her pup Blazer were one of our first friends back in the day on DoggySpace. Mom and I suppose the heavens were weeping for joy that Vicki was coming home to be with her Blazer and Kitty Kimber.  She was truly an angel on earth.

Mom had set me up a profile on DoggySpace before I was 2 weeks old. I wasn't even living with my Mom and Dad yet, but Vicki and Blazer made sure I felt welcomed.  Blazer was an impressive pup, a beautiful black Poodle with a white blaze down his chest.  Mom and I thought his Mom was every bit as impressive.  She was a sweet gentle soul, who lived for her pets, and  would prove to be one of the loyalist of friends you'd ever want to have.

We in the pet blogging community are as close a group as any social media group can be.  It strikes a chord in ones heart and gives reason to question our own mortality when one of us dies.  Vicki is the first Blogger friend we have lost and this community will never be the same with her gone.

Rest in Peace dear Vicki, you, Blazer, and Kitty Kimber are together forever and will always be in our hearts.

Love, Molly and my Mom

Being a Diva

I have known I'm special all my life.  I knew my pawrents thought I was special the first day we met.  It was a match made in heaven.  Sure we have our disagreements but they are very few and far between.

All of you my dear readers know I am a fierce brave hunting doggy, that loves my walks through our woods and fields.  I got to go on my first fall walk the other day.  It was something stories could be written about.  It was a cool day, overcast and a bit grey, but perfect in my eyes.  It had been wayy too hot this  past summer for a little Diva girl to do any walking or hiking.

I sniffed, snuffed and smelled to my heart's content, catching up on all the gossip that I had missed over the summer.  There were no beautiful fall colors to drink in with the eyes and touch the soul, but there was the joy of seeing the beauty of nature in our part of the rural south.  I had missed the smells of the forest and the sounds of the cattle lowing at the dairy a few miles away.  Our pair of red tailed hawks were screeching their hello's across the Carolina blue sky.  Their dance through the heavens  is something truly magnificent to watch.  Once again I missed catching my nemesis that pesky squirrel and he chattered his glee from the top of the old oak tree.

My stroll across the hay field and through the woods ended up taking about an hour.  Mom and I enjoyed resuming our  fall and winter rambles over the farm.  It's a part of the changing of the seasons here, and  a welcome release from our summers of being house bound due to the incredible heat and humidity that's a part of living in the south.

We got back home and I still didn't want to go inside.  Luckily for me I have a Mom who's almost exactly like me.  It seems Mom wasn't ready to end our visit to the beautiful outdoors either.  Tabby, Mom and I made our way to the bottom of the yard where the Mother deer and their fawns play.  I was smelling through the brush under the fence when Ohhhh my Dogs a brier jumped up and bit me!!! I lunged backwards, spinning around to see if Mom and Tabby saw what had happened.  Both had a questioning look on their faces.  I couldn't believe they didn't see that brier trying to attack me and in fact snagging my lip.  I made a bee line back to the house dragging Mom behind me.

The rest of the evening I was out of sorts and indeed did become a bit stressed by the ordeal.  Mom tried the everything is normal ruse she uses on occasion to get me to realize all is well with the world.  I can tell you I wasn't having any of it.  Ten min into Mom's it just a normal evening routine and I was showing signs of getting nauseous, then she heard the tummy sounds of impending diarrhea.  Let me tell you pups that brier biting my lip convinced me there were enemies hiding behind every blade of grass waiting to attack me.

All this progressed to where at 7:3o pm Mom and I were pulling into my (at times) home away from home, our local Emergency Vet.  (I might add that most of the dogtors on staff know me by name).  I am treated like a queen visiting her subjects and I can tell you that I do not get placed in a kennel as most of the other pups do.  I Molly get held in a lap and get loving and kisses from the vet technicians and nurses.

Mom and my dogtor caught up on each other's lives as it had been a while since I had visited my 2nd home and hearth.  This nice dogtor has met her other half and they'll be getting married soon.  I got diagnosed  and received  injections for nausea, famotidine for tummy acid, and med's for diarrhea.
So you see dear furiends, yes indeed I am a fierce brave hunting doggy, but when a brier reaches out and bites me, well I show my true Diva colors and Mom says, "There's nothing wrong with that".

Catching Up

I told Mom it was time to catch up my followers on what's been going on here in the country.  I'm sorry my secretary falls down on the job  occasionally but ~sigh~ (She is my Mom) and I can't think of a way to fire her.

For starters I've had another birthday!  Yups I turned 5 years old on Sept 11th.  That's some day to have for a birthday right?  Mom says, "My being born on Sept. 11th proves that the cycle of life goes on even after such a terrible tragedy.  That there's a time for everything, just  as the good book says.  A time to morn and a time to appreciate the gift of life".  Mom says, "I'm her special gift".

Which is a good thing as this brings us to the 2nd thing that's happened since Mom has written a blog for me.  You know how every now and then we pups do the almost inexcusable thing...(like weeing in the bed)?  Ohh yeah, I did that while we were MIA.  Let me tell you Mom was not a happy camper.  It was 3:00 am and I wasn't feeling well.  I had just started my med's for a slight ear infection and I had been having an upset tummy.  We go out and my tummy was upset, I wasn't finished yet when Mom picked me up and back inside we go.  Mom cleans me up, washes my feet and we totter off back to bed.  Mom goes into the bathroom to get a drink of water and well, I did what I needed to do.

This translated to Mom stripping the bed and the mattress pad at 3:30 am and replacing the sheets.  This task set the mood for the remainder of the night.  I Molly the sweetheart of the family ended up spending the rest of the night locked in my crate by the bed.  Needless to say, it wasn't the best of times....

I tried telling Mom that if she'd listened while we were outside I wouldn't have gone wee wee in the bed, but at this hour of the  am she was in no mood to listen.  I am a girl that likes to meander around the yard and smell what our wildlife neighbors have been up to before I take care of nature's call.  At 3:00 am Mom isn't seeing the importance of my finding out who's been visiting our yard while we're inside sleeping.  So I'm sure you can understand we were at an impasse.

The next morning there was no time to come to a resolution to our issue as the pawrents had to take the mattress pad to the laundry mat.  Hummm... seems I did cause a bit of bother for the folks.  Being the good pup that I am, I immediately upon my folks arrival back home explained how sorry I was and that I would try my best to never wee in the bed again.  You pups know how bad we feel when we're out of sorts with our hoomans.  It was wonderful to hear my pawrents tell me how much they love me and that they'd never not love me, no matter what I do.

So the last bit of catching up is an update on my folks medical issues.  I'm sure I've mentioned my pawrents are a bit older and have had their first medical crisis each several weeks ago.  Dad's doing a lot better now that he's been out of the hospital a while.  His diet has improved considerably, and he's feeling 20 years younger.  Everything with Mom has gotten better as well.  With her medical scare she decided it was time to try and get a grip on her Diabetes.  Mom's blood sugar is much lower than it was and she's lost several pounds to boot.

It's tough for us pups with older hoomans as we're always a little worried about them.  No pup ever wants to outlive their people.  It looks like things are working out for us all here at our house dear furiends.  I'm extremely loved no matter what kind of accidents I may have, and it looks like my Mom and Dad are doing a much better job of taking care of themselves, which makes me a very happy pup indeed.

Love, Molly and my Mom
