Easter Blessings

I am an observant girl.  Mom and my dogtor noticed this about me when I was a wee pup.  This has been something Mom has paid attention to all my life.  I don't really know why she finds this to be such a fascinating aspect of my personality but she does.

I notice everything.  I pay extreme attention to what my pawrents do, not to mention Tabby cat, (he likes to try and steal my food) the squirrels. It's just part of my nature.  This could possibly all trace back to my great ancestors in the wild hunting for their food.  You never know what kind of habits you might pick up in an eat or be eaten life style.

Anyway, getting back to my story, I noticed it was a quiet and peacefully long weekend here.  Neither Mom nor Dad did a lot of running, rushing or going.  I always like the weekends where Mom and Dad stay at home.  We play lots of throw the ball. There's lots of walkies. Well except this weekend, as it rained all holiday.

I realized in the peace and quiet and pleasures of family time that I have a lot to be thankful for.  I have family and friends that love me.  I have a home with warm clean beds and blankets to snuggle in.  I even have my own heating pad for my bed by Mom's desk. Plenty of food that doesn't bother my tummy.  (I have tummy issues so Mom cooks me Bison stew meat and jerky for my snacks.)

During this holiday, Mom found out some dear old friends had lost their home and all their possessions to a house fire. We both realized no one knows when misfortune or tragedy may strike, but it's with friendships and prayer that we make it through the good times and the bad.

So dear friends, let's all take the time to reflect on the friendships we have, the food we have, the homes we have , all our many blessings that we take for granted, and say a word of thanks.  May we also say a  prayer and remember those who are less fortunate for whatever reasons there may be.

Wishing you all a wonderful Easter Holiday.

Life's Routines

We here at my home all enjoy our routines.  I know when my bathroom breaks are, and I know when I'm going on my walkies.  Life is simpler when we know what to expect.  Spring follows winter summer follows spring and life has an expected rhythm.  Ok, most of that's true, but winter threw us a curve ball this year.

After my teeth cleaning tummy issues it had gotten so very hot (and stayed hot) Mom went ahead and got my summer haircut.  I was miserable on our walks and was dragging and panting all the way home.  This worked well for all of about two weeks.

Winter reared its ugly head once again.  My family hit the hibernation mode.  The walkies didn't completely stop, but they certainly did become less frequent.  It got cold , really cold, and then the rains came, and came.  Mom had to break out my winter jacket once again as I had no hair to speak of to keep me warm.  After that she had to pull out my winter pj.s

Mom's not a big shopper, so it's difficult to determine when she'll get that bee in her bonnet.  It's guaranteed if I get sick Mom or Dad (most of the time both) don't leave my side.  I'm blessed with pawrents that love me and take the best possible care of me.  I knew Mom needed to take care of the shopping while I was sick, but she and Dad decided they could put that off until I felt better.

One morning the folks started going through the we're leaving the house routine. Most of the time, during the cooler months I always go with my Mom and Dad where ever they go.  If pups can't go inside one of my pawrents stay in the car with me. This time things were different.  Mom turned the Christmas music on Pandora.  After that the cincher, she put my blanket on the kitchen floor and moved my crate into the kitchen.

Routines dear furiends we pups know them better than anyone.  Mom told me Molly, while you were sick I put off doing a lot of things that needed to be done.  You're better now, and I've got to do some shopping.  I'll be back soon.

I'm a pup that feels my life's calling is to protect those I love.  I know in my heart of hearts something terrible is going to happen to my Mom and Dad while they're not under my watchful eye.  I wasn't happy with their decision to leave me home, but routines dear pawfuriends routines.  My pawrents always come back home to me when they leave me alone, and they ALWAYS  bring me new yellow squeaky balls.  Today was no exception.

Just as Spring follows winter every time we return from a walk Mom and I have our routine.  She  takes a break on the computer, writing my blogs, or working on our pictures.  I Molly, climb the steps to my puppy perch, look out the window and take a little nap while resting on my soft clean blankets.

Routines  pawfuriends, they're the stuff life is made of.

Goin's On Here

It's been busy here at our house here in the country the past few weeks.  As everyone's life is, some of it's been good some of it not so much.

The weather is never really anything that bothers me.  I'm a pup that loves the great outdoors and all it has to offer.  Snow, sleet, bitter cold no problem.  I have a Mom that will layer me to meet the occasion.  Rain, mud, that doesn't bother me either.  It's been raining and muddy here for a while.  I can't say I've missed that many walkies during our inclement weather. No complaints there.

Mom had a birthday and that was kind of a big deal.  Dad surprised her with a take away birthday dinner and got her the entire series of her favorite TV show on Hulu.  Her and Dad watched TV all night and got caught up on The Blacklist.  Dad also surprised Mom with some more graphics editing software.  (I don't know if you've noticed but Mom and I are kind of addicted to graphics editing).  So you see it's been an eventful time here at our house.

The reason Dad got take away and they not go to the restaurant is, I have been a terribly sick pup. Mom and Dad weren't going to go out to celebrate Mom's Birthday with me not being well. Yups, I'm sure my furiends remember I had my first dental cleaning a few weeks ago.  Well no one knew I was fighting off a tummy bug when they put me to sleep for my cleaning.  That gave the bug time to call in the reinforcements.  It was downhill from there pawfuriends.

I'm glad I have the Mom and Dad I have.  The first sign of something amiss with my tummy and I get loaded up in the car and the folks are calling my dogtor while we're in route to their office.

Mom's kept me pretty quite ever since.  That was fine for the first couple of days, but it's been almost 2 weeks now.  I've got bunnies and squirrels to track and chase.  While I've been on restricted play times, Spring/Summer has sprung.

This seems to be one of those years where we skip Spring and move right into summer.
Now this will cramp my style.  I am a pup that has one speed.  That's go, and go as fast as my stubby legs can carry me.  Mom doesn't do well letting that happen during the summer time.  Or if she does, it's VERY  early in the mornings or VERY late in the afternoons.  We live in the south and not only are our summers very hot, they're also very humid.  As I mentioned before, the weather doesn't cause me to miss a beat, and that is my downfall.  Mom says, seeing as how I only have one speed, that translates to less time outside during the summer time months.

It's happened early here this year pawfuriends, even the super short haircuts have started. Mom thinks I don't know what's going on.  I got a bath today,  and seeing that I haven't been to the groomers in a while I have a sneaking suspicion that's where I'm going tomorrow.  I'll come back home nekked and I'll stay that way until fall.

Happy Spring/Summer depending on where you live.

Love, Molly and my Mom

Molly's Trip to the Dogtors/ or Noo Dinnies

About my going to the dogtor... Well I'm a big girl now and Mom told me it was time I went and got my teeth cleaned. I was fine with that as I had no clue what she was talking about.

I am a  diva girl, and I confess I'm a little spoiled.  I typically eat when ever Mom and Dad do.  We're family and I like to do things together.  When I do eat, I always want my family with me to hold court while I consume my meals.  I'm used to this, my family's used to this, even Tabby Cat knows the routine.

I've gotten to where if I don't want to eat a meal, I know there's always going to be another one.  I generally eat my dinner when my Dad comes home around 11:30 pm.  This way I have my entire family with me for my last meal of the day.

I certainly got a surprise the other night.  Mom offered me a meal at 9:00 pm.  I never eat at 9:00 so I politely refused.  Mom told me Molly you haven't eaten ALL day, you need to eat now as there's not going to be a meal when your Dad comes home.

I look at my Mom and think Pfft I don't want to eat now, I certainly will eat when my Dad comes home.  We are family and all of ya'll are going to eat with me.  I proceed to walk off and Mom takes up my bowl.

It's a regular kind of evening and I can hardly wait for my Dad to get home as I'm STARVING!!  Yups I've been too busy barking, playing and looking out the windows protecting my home from trespassers.  (I know they're out there, just lurking behind the trees.  They think I don't know they're there, those ole pesky deer and raccoon , but I do).

Soooo Dad comes  home and I shower him with kisses letting him know I've missed him bunches.  We go out for my last potty break and come in.  I run to the den where I get to eat dinner and there's no bowl.  I look at Mom??? Where's my dinnies Mom?  Now I haven't eaten Allllll DAY Long.  I'm one hungry girl.

Mom picks me up and we go to bed.  Wellll where's my bedtime snack Mom?  Where's my Buffalo?  Folks there's no Buffalo either.  OHHH MYYYY DOGGGS!!! I'm getting nooo food?  I have never had noooo food.  What am I going to do?  I know what I'm going to do.  I'm going to die.  That's exactly what I'm going to do.  I'm going to die of starvation.

We all go to bed and let me tell you.  My tummy was empty and I was hungry.  The only thing I knew to do was to let Mom know hey, you didn't feed me Mom.  Did you forget??   I scratched on Mom's arm to get her attention.  Just to be sure she understood I was talking to her I shoved my nose in her face and gave her a kiss.  Mom I just want to let you know you didn't give me my dinnies.

I was pretty hungry ALL NIGHT LONG so I let Mom know ALL NIGHT LONG that I wanted something to eat.  I'm a Dachshund and we're known for being tenacious and determined.  I was pretty determined I wanted something to eat.  With Mom being the place everything yummy comes from, I thought I'd just remind her every time my tummy growled.

There was no food for breakfast either.  Mom and Dad load me up at the crack of dawn and we end up at my dogtors.  This wasn't going well pawfuriends.  I became one unhappy pup as it didn't take them long to hand me over to the dogtor.

Mom had brought my bed and blanket, my kibbies and my buffalo so I figured I was going to be here awhile.

It wasn't long before I fell asleep.  When I woke up I had clean teefies.  Mom and Dad say I have fresh breath now  too.

It's been a rough couple of days for us all,   Mom with no sleep, me with no food, sleep and being put to sleep.

We're hoping we'll all feel like ourselves tomorrow and let me tell you, when your pawrents put a bowl of food down for you, you need to eat it dear pups.  You never know, it could be your last meal for a longg time.

Love, Molly and my Mom
