Some of you may have noticed Mom and I MIA here lately.  I'm sorry about that, and I hope no one's become concerned.  All's well here.

I'm sure you remember reading something about my Mom having regained her health after being sick and housebound for a few years.  Well Mom's jumped out of her computer chair and into the front yard and has rarely looked back.  BOL

I'm having a hard time getting her to take care of my blogs and correspondence in a timely fashion these days.  I told Mom to stop her gardening and sit down a few min.s.  I told her we needed to have a chat about our blogging schedule.  I mentioned that pups and their hoomans like keeping up with what's going on here @ The Fast and The Furriest and that she'd been a bit lax on writing her blogs here lately.

Mom couldn't argue with that one as she knows she hasn't been as diligent as she should.  In her defense Mom has been working like a trojan in her new flower beds.

Five years ago just as Mom first got really sick Dad built her a Pergola to plant a flower garden around.  Sadly her health deteriorated to the point that the only thing she could do was take me for my walks.  Yups that was about all the old gal had in her.

Needless to say Mom's like a kid on spring break.  BOL  It's hard to keep her inside these days.  Mom's plans for the garden area are finally taking shape and becoming a reality.  With that being said it's a LOT of hard work.

We're getting outside early in the mornings and working until around lunch.  Then it's time for Mom to take care of the housework and rest a bit.  We'll go back out in the evenings from 6:00 pm until dark weeding and watering our new gardens.

The pawrents are going to be working on a rock walkway and stone floor for Mom's pergola now.  So it's going to be hard backbreaking manual labor for a while.

During our chat I mentioned to Mom that she needed to post a blog and let our readers know she's not going to be able to keep a schedule for our blogs.  (Mom may feel better than she has in years, but she's no spring chicken.  BOL  I know she doesn't want me to tell on her but a lot of days she'll come in and fall asleep in her chair.  She means to get on the computer and pop out a blog but she's simply run out of steam by the time evening gets here).

We hope you all understand our heart and mind are willing but Mom's old body simply isn't able to keep up with all our commitments at this time.

Angel Penny's Memorial stone arrived and that's placed in her garden.  Her Memorial statue of a sleeping Dachshund should be here in the next few days.

We thought we'd share a few pictures of the archway/entryway Dad got Mom for her garden and a few other pictures as well.

We'll blog as we get a break and catch you up on what we've been up to. Wishing you all a wonderful summer.

Love,

Molly and my Mom

Angel Penny's Visit

I am not my Mom's first Dachshund.  Nopes, I'm not.  Angel Penny holds that monumental position forever in my pawrents hearts.

Though my Mom doesn't speak of her often, she has thought of Penny many times over the years since her passing.

If you ever get into a discussion with my Mom about dogs invariably she will mention what a special place Dachshunds hold in her heart.  (My Mom is a very old woman.  She even gets a Senior Citizen Discount when she and Dad go out to eat).  She's had many dogs during her lifetime.  It's us weenie dogs that stole her heart.

Penny passed Memorial Day weekend 5 years ago.  She was 14 years old.  Rainbow Bridge needed an angel to devote all it's time to finding the pawfect replacement for my Angel Sister.

Time is a healer or so they say.  Mom says it simply blurs one memory into the other.  You see she's always assumed she and I found each other the week Angel Penny passed.  The more she and I talked about it she realized that  wasn't exactly true.

Now what is true is the folks put a deposit on me before I was even a week old.  Angel Penny told them I was the pup she picked out just for them.  She knew my Mom and Dad would never get over her passing if she'd sent them another sweet little love bug like her.  So she found the wildest, most independent tom boy weenie dog on the face of the earth.  She had that personality wrapped  up in the fluffiest, prissiest looking outside she could find.

Add all this together and I was born Sept. 11, 2011.  When I mentioned this to Mom it all came flooding back to her.  She and Dad looked for me for close to 4 months before Angel Penny steered us together.

Angel Penny visited me in my sleep one night last week and woke me up.  She'd been thinking of our Mom and Dad.  She wanted to know how they were doing and if I was keeping them happy and entertained.

I told her Mom's health had taken an incredible turn for the better and that she'd gotten her life back.  Penny and I both know when our Mom gets her life back so does my Dad.  When Mom's well, she's an undeniable force of nature.  You either go along willingly or get caught up in the whirlwind.  BOL Angel Penny and I both smiled knowing our pawrents were once again happy, busy and content.

There's a funny thing about my Angel Sister visiting me that night as the very next day I saw Mom pulling something out from under the bed.  I got closer to see what it was (as I don't see well out of one eye).  Low and Behold it was a Polished Copper Smooth Coated Red Dachshund Weathervane.  She'd bought it as a Birthday gift for my Dad after Penny made her journey to Rainbow Bridge.

Mom placed it on the dining room table and called my Dad to come and see.  That very afternoon my family and I went to the garden store.  Mom got tons of flowers for my Angel Sister Penny's Memorial Garden.

Well my furiends, Penny's Weathervane is up in her garden, and most of the flowers are planted.

I can look out my living room window seat and see her dancing in the wind with her Dachshund ears flapping in the breeze.  She constantly looks my way to see if I'm watching her at play, spinning the weathervane this way and that; smiling her impish smile.

Yes indeed there are Angel's among us.

Love, Molly and my Mom

P.S. The Angel Statue and plaque is a memorial garden for my Dad's Mother.  The inscription on the plaque says,

"I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too,
I think of you in silence
...I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I’ll never part
God has you in His keeping
I have you in my heart."
