About Thanksgiving

I love this time of the year, Molly thought to herself as she walked through the forest to visit her friends and wish them a Happy Thanksgiving.  First on her list were The Foxes.  She remembered the day they'd met 4 years earlier.  It was another beautiful day in the late fall.  She had slipped away from the watchful eye of her Mom and was sniffing through the fence when Mr. Fox stealthily walked by making a shushh motion with his paw to his lips.

Molly had kept in touch with the Fox family ever since.  Quietly barking at the den door Molly waited for Mr. and Mrs. Fox to appear.  In the blink of an eye there they were there though Molly had never heard a sound.  She never ceased to be amazed by the talents of her forest friends.

Handing them her Thanksgiving gift Molly sat down to visit with her friends.  They exchanged pleasantries and then the conversation took a turn that probably happens at many a gathering this time of the year.

Molly had always admired the wisdom of Mr. and Mrs. Fox, as they'd been living in her forest far longer than she herself.  Her ears perked up as she could tell Mr. Fox  was getting ready to tell her something important.  He said Molly," Thanksgiving isn't about beautiful decorations, although no human lives surrounded by the incredible beauty we have in our forest.  It's not the fine food, that fill's the peoples tables to over flowing during the holiday season.  Nor is it even the company that comes to visit during this special time of the year, he said with a gentle smile.

Remember Thanksgiving is a condition of our hearts.  It's a deep and personal appreciation for all of the blessings you have received throughout the years.

Be thankful for what you have been given and where you are in life, as there are pups and animals that have less.  Appreciate the kind word, and the gentle touch, as there are some that have never experienced either one.  Be thankful for the love of family and friends."

Happy Thanksgiving,

Molly and my Mom

Mom says I was Bad

Ok maybe I was bad, but it was Mom's fault.  I have been on a very serious diet all summer.  I woke up one morning and Mom freaked out.  She started going on and on about I was fat.  I looked at her and said, "Excuse me"?  You're calling me, your sweet pea fat?? Pfft I don't think so.

Well considering the drastic reduction in my food bowl, I guess she really did think I was fat.  And it did seem that everyone from my groomer to my dogtor shared Mom's opinion.  I tried telling them big is beautiful baby, but they were having none of it.  So reduced rations it was.

That was back during the early summer.  Now fast forward to almost Thanksgiving.  I'm about to fade away.  Honest I am!!!  To make matters worse Tabby cat gets all he wants to eat!  That's food, treats and my buffalo. He wants it, he eats it!!! Now is that fair?

You can see my situation here can't you?  Of course you can.  There's a cat getting all the food he wants.  Mom and Dad constantly telling me I can't have any more food as  I'm fat andd the open pantry door...

Yups, the OPEN PANTRY DOOR, no Mom in sight as she's vacuuming and forgotten to close the PANTRY DOOR.  So I made my move, quite and stealthy as I could be.  I get to the cat food bag, and sniff the forbidden fruit.  Oooh my Dawgs that smells soooo good.  I temporarily get lost in the wonderful fragrance wafting towards my nostrils.  I sigh a quite thankful sigh.  No pawrents to be found anywhere in sight and the cat food bag.  I shove my nose farther down the bag and begin to take a few dainty bites, enjoying each morsel I chew, when like a banshee screeching from the pits of hadees I hear my Mom screaming, "Molly what the hell are you doing".

Let me tell you pups, I started gobbling up that hairball control cat food for all I was worth, as I knew my attempts to fill my empty shriveled tummy were over now.  As soon as I could swallow my last bite of nourishment, I looked at my Mom and growled my misery.  Mom looked as shocked as I felt, but in my defense starvation can change a girl especially when food is snatched from your grasp.

So maybe I was bad, but it was Mom's fault for leaving that pantry door open.  (I've checked pawfuriends there's no cat food bag on the floor of the pantry any more). It's back to hoovering the kitchen floor for crumbs once again.  ~sigh~

Well I spent the week digging for moles and taking slow walks around the farm.  It was a quite peaceful time.  Thank Dawg's it's over!!!  I'm back to running, ripping and roaring  and finally chasing those pesky squirrels.  I'm having a blast to be honest.

Mom may have gotten something started with her showing me where the mole tunnels are in our front yard.  Yups, I make a beeline to the mole tunnels every time I step out the door now days.  Mom doesn't really mind, but it's a different story with my Dad.

During my convalescence, Mom had to make an emergency trip to her dentist as she managed to break a tooth.  She didn't find that to be a lot of fun. I lost a day of mole hunting on that day.  In all fairness Mom didn't seem like her usual perky self either.  She spent a lot of time working on our Thanksgiving and Christmas cards for The Fast and the Furriest and her new blog Artistic Impressions.

The hoomans elected a new president.  Some are very happy about that some not so much. People are protesting and fighting in the streets.  Friendships have ended over this election.  It's a sad thing.  Mom and I don't get it.  Our hoomans are all the same people they were before the new president was elected.

We pray the anger, fear and frustration ends. Regardless to who may sit in the presidential chair, God still sits on the throne, and we are all still one nation under God. We pray we soon return to the  being indivisible part. We pray for peace, healing and unity and we pray for friendships to be restored.

We pups watch our hoomans and simply shake our heads at times.  We may have a disagreement with our furiends but before the days over we're back to being best buds.  Furiendships and friendships Trump politics any day.

Take joy in the little things my friends and furiends, and have faith that tomorrow will be a better day.

Here's a video of me doing just that.

Love,

Molly and my Mom

About Mole Tunnel Excavations

I recently sustained a neck/back injury that prevented me from my typical form of exercising.  I love long walks in the woods, running and chasing those pesky squirrels.  Needless to say, this all came to a screeching halt with the pawrents suspicions being confirmed by my dogtor.  ~sigh~

Mom and I have been together long enough that she knows how much I love to hunt for moles.  This year we seem to have a bumper crop making tunnels in our yard.  This gave Mom an idea as I am indeed a pup that can become bored and unhappy quite quickly.  Mom called my dogtor to run her idea by her first.  My dogtor gave Mom's idea the green light.

It was time for my morning patrol of our yards perimeter.  Mom said Molly we're doing something different today.  I gave Mom my best quizzical look as this was indeed a welcome break from the dare I say, boring border patrol we've been doing for the past couple of days. My ears perked in anticipation of something different.  It didn't really matter what, I simply wanted to do something besides walk along the fence line of my yard.

Mom starts walking towards the huge old Snowball bush and stops.  Now my ears were indeed perked up as I simply couldn't figure out what she was up to.  Bending down, Mom points to a small hill and says, "Molly come" as she's patting the ground.  Walking over with my head cocked as I'm a pup that's always up for something new, I sniff the ground.  OH Myy Doggss I can smell a mole!!!!

BOL I never gave Mom another glance.  I commence to digging a hole to China, and when I didn't find a mole there, I moved over and started digging to China again.  I now have a trench a yard long if it's a foot dug in my front yard by Mom's huge Snowball bush.  Now Dad's not going to be too thrilled about this, but I'm happy.  I now have a purpose and although I'm not giving the squirrels a run for their money, those moles are running for the hills.

I probably will never find one of these pesky critters as that's Tabby cats specialty, but I'm having a blast. For now I've forgotten about my long walks in the woods chasing my nemesis the squirrels.

Yups pawfuriends, Mole Excavation trumps Border Patrol any day.

Love, Molly and my Mom
