Tabby the Greatest Hunter

Today it was so hot I was panting in the shade.  Mom has told me there will be no walkies except very early in the morning for the foreseeable  future.  What this translates to is I get to go in the backyard and explore or not to my heart's content, OFF LEASH.
I had explored, watched the forest for any signs of my nemesis those pesky squirrels, and had simply laid in the cool grass enjoying the sounds of the woods.  After a while it was time to go back inside as it was indeed pretty warm.
Mom grabs up her bug spray, and iced tea and tells me, Molly it's time to go inside".  Well I do know what this means but ...for a few min. I pretend I'm totally clueless.

As I was meandering around sniffing here and there, I noticed the most interesting aroma.  I began doing my fierce, brave, hunting dog casting about to find the source of that fascinating scent and low and behold Mom beat me to the punch.

As I watched her snatch it from beneath my wiggling nose, I saw this was almost the greatest gift Tabby Cat had ever left me. Well except for that squirrel he left a few months ago.  I let out a woebegone ~sigh~. This was a beautiful mouse that the mole, my last goodie could have saddled up and rode like a pony.  I watched in disbelieve as Mom tossed him over the fence into the woods.

I feel that I must set the record straight.  As many of my long time furiends know, I have always referred to myself as a Fierce, Brave, Hunting Dog. Well truth be told Tabby Cat is the true hunter in our family.  I on the other hand have never killed a thing, and wouldn't really know how to go about it.  I do love to chase a scent trail and tree bothersome squirrels though.

Tabby loves to bring gifts to show his great love and affection for me, and  I truly appreciate each and every one. (I think he's a bit embarrassed that we're related, and he's hoping these offerings will somehow inspire me to become more of a true fierce brave hunting doggy).

Mom has over the years learned how enormous my gratitude is for these tokens of inspiration that have been discreetly placed about the yard.  Mom watched in dismay the first time she saw my method of accepting my souvenir of Tabby's hunt.  To Mom's horror (and eventually mine after I learned Mom's remedy for extracting the vermin from my tummy). I love to swallow  (whole I might add) the mice, and moles that are my presents.

So there you have it my dear furiends and friends, I've bared my soul and have confessed my most guarded of secrets.  Tabby is the hunter in our family and I am a poser.  Until that day that I myself become a True Fierce Brave Hunter, I will look with wild abandon for any inspirational gift Tabby may want to leave me in the hopes of being able to become "one" with my supposed prey.

There's a Time for Everything

Looking around glancing  at the sunlit hay-field Molly let out a contented sigh.  She thought back to the Rainbow Bridge mail she'd gotten from her Angel sister Penny, telling her all about the two month pool party she and all the Rainbow Bridge angels had recently had.  There had been water gun fights with  huge water blasters, cook outs. It had all sounded like a typical Rainbow Bridge party.

Molly reflected on the reply she'd sent her sister, telling her they needed to tone down the heavenly celebrations a touch the next time they had a pool party. They had over done the water gun fights and it had rained here on earth for those two months.

The sounds of the birds singing and the breeze blowing through the leaves disrupts Molly's frustrated mood causing her to remember something her Mom had told years ago when she was a young pup.  There's a time for everything on God's earth Molly.  Realizing there is indeed a time for everything.

There's a time for the Bridge Angels to Play.

There's a time for the rain.

There's a time for sunshine with warm, soft breezes.

(There's a time to send Chief Angel Foley at the Rainbow Bridge an email to keep an eye on her Angel Sister Penny and her shenanigans.) Click Angel Foley's name to visit her blog and read of the goings on at Rainbow Bridge.

We should appreciate what we have while we have it, she thought,  as there will be a time that we wish for the rain, just as Mom and I had wished for the sunshine.  Molly looked up at her Mom knowing she was enjoying the warm sunny day as much as she was and smiled.

There's something to be said for getting a little older.  Instead of being caught up in things that are frustrating, we grow to appreciate the lovely things we have.  Like a walk in the sunshine with those we love.

Wishing you sunny walks with those you love.

About those Potty Times

I Molly am a creature of habit.  I'm sure you've read my previous barks about how I like sticking to my routines.  This is all very true, but I confess I do at times stray from my typical schedules.
Mother Nature calls when she calls and we all must follow the sound of her voice or to be a bit more direct when we feel our tummy rumble.

Take the other day for example, Mom took me out during my regular outside times all day long.  Night time fell and I still passed on my opportunity to take care of my personal business.  "I tell Mom I'm good lets go back inside". Mom looks at me with That look, (you all know the one),  but there's no hiking around the yard for 15 to 20 mins.  Boy was I thankful.

After a while bedtime rolls around and there's the before bedtime potty break. Once again I look at Mom with the "Nopes I'm good look". Mom's really giving me the eye, but once again I'm safe from the hikes around our yard.

I eat my dinnies with my family holding court and it's bedtime.  We all get comfy and settle in for a nice long sleep. Suddenly, out of the blue, I know without a shadow of a doubt I must go potty NOW!!

Well Mom is the first one I must tell this news to.  Now you have to keep in mind I Molly am a very tactful and polite girl.  There's no loud barking or wild goings on.  I personally like to kiss Mom to wake her up.  If that doesn't do the trick well I kiss her more enthusiastically. None of my polite methods were doing the trick. So of course with nature calling me like the sirens voices from the rocks I had no other recourse but to do the full face body slam.

That's right, you pups that sleep with your pawrents know what I'm talking about.  You do what you have to do, isn't that right pawfuriends?  We pups save the "full face body slam" for the most dire of situations and let me tell you this was a dire situation.  After belly flopping on Mom's face I then fell back to my fervid kisses.

Mom does indeed wake up and with a groggy sleep laden voice asks Molly, "What is it?"  I'm doing everything I can to convey that I'm about to have a serious accident here and she's asking me what's wrong?  Ohh my Dogs I'm thinking to myself, "Do I really need to draw you a picture?"  I get in her face and give her a kiss and turn around and look at my bum.

I'm telling you furiends FINALLY  that light bulb moment happens.  Mom says, "Molly do you need to go out?"  Honestly I almost wept with joy that she finally got it.  So dear pups when Mother Nature calls your name at 2:00 in the morning I'm praying your pawrents are a little quicker to catch on than my Mom.

Love,

Molly and my Mom

Rain Rain Go Away

The monsoons have set in here for at least 6 weeks now...Yups, I'm glad Mom bought me that full body rain jacket.   (Not!!!)  You know how Mom's over do everything.  This rain jacket is one step away from a full scuba diving wet suit.  Which by the way is saying something as I'm a Dachshund.

Mom got the large size and worked her sewing magic on it so she would be happy with the "fit".  By the time she was finished "modifying" my jacket, the only things exposed to the elements were my nose and paws. Dad refers to my jacket as Molly's "body condom".  Of course Mom gives him the "evil eye".

I am a pup that likes to be "one" with nature.  I want to feel the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. (Or should nature dictate the rain on my fur and the mud on my tummy).

That is until this past week. Even Mom's body condom rain jacket can't help a pup when it's rained for 6 weeks and more forecasted.  It seems that I Molly the delicate daffodil (snorts with laughter) have gotten a wee bit of a bacterial skin infection due to all the wet.

I get little itchy bumps that are a bit smelly when you scratch them every now and then. It  now seems that damp and wet can bring them about. Mom noticed the aroma the other day and then again today while she and I were playing. ( I like to jump on Mom's face and hold her down with my paw while I give her kisses up her nose and on her eyes).  Mom squeals with delight every time we play this game.

As you can imagine there was the ooh not so fun trip to the doctor's office. It didn't take Mom and my dogtor long to find a prime example of one of my smelly bumps. After a microscopic exam, prescribed meds, and a slow lengthy trip home I am now resting on my heated bed taking a much deserved nap. Dreaming of days filled with sunshine, warm temps and lots of squirrels to chase.

Not only does the rainy weather deprive me of my outside times it now has to give me itchy smelly bumps that require Mom to spray me with an icky smelly substance a smear a foul smelling ointment on my bumps.  I'll say it again Rain Rain Go Away.

Rain, Wind and Storms Oooh Boy!!

Mom has a friend who isn't a big fan of thunder storms.  I Molly happen to love them.  That's right, I think thunder storms totally rock!

Many years ago Mom had a very large dog that was terrified of thunder storms.  Blue didn't start off in life afraid of storms but as she got older she became mortally horrified anytime she knew a storm was coming.

Fast forward more years than Mom's willing to say, and I come into my Mom and Dad's life.  Mom had gotten older and wiser.  She had lots of  dogs before she found me.

Mom taught me things she calls "manners" and several things to just help me be a happy pup.

One thing she started very early in my life was anytime there's thunder, lightening, wind or torrential rain it's time to play with my most favorite toy.  My yellow squeaky ball.

We had our most severe storm of the season today.  Mom was working on the computer when it started.  I ran to the den door with my ball in my mouth, dropped it on the floor, nudged it  Mom's way,  and gave my , "It's time to play ball bark".  Mom looked at me and smiled said, "Molly I heard the thunder, LOL let me finish this picture and we'll play ball".

This is our typical storm activity.  It keeps Mom off the computer should she need to unplug it,(even though she has a surge protector), and Mom says it keeps me busy and distracted with the thunder boomers going outside.

I've never been afraid of a storm in my life and in fact I totally love them as at the first boom of thunder I'm off to get my ball and tell Mom it's time to play.

The next time you hear that old thunder booming, grab your ball and tell your pawrents it's time to play fetch.  Hehee here that means Mom and Dad go and fetch my ball for me.

Love, Molly and my Mom
