My family's Christmas was somewhat different this year. Dad and Mom both had the flu and as fate would have it I ended up with an ear infection. Yups not the best of times for everyone to end up feeling a bit under the weather.
One thing about my Mom, she's a force of nature that you simply can't ignore when it comes to Christmastime. She's not going to let anything like a flu bug keep her family from not having a wonderful Christmas. (You know the type, shoulder to the plow and all that). Day and Night Mom was getting the house decorated, cooking Christmas goodies no one would be able to taste due to the flu ruining peoples taste buds and appetite. Mom trudged on like the good Christmas soldier she is.
The big day arrived and we opened our gifts and ate our feast. None of us really felt a lot of joy during this holiday season. After we opened our last gift Dad said well, we need to run to the post office, there's a package that needs to be picked up.
I Molly perked up my ears. A package needing to be picked up typically means something for me. This thought brought a smile to my face. Now who would be sending me a package, I thought to myself. We all got our jackets and hats on and away we went to the post office.
Dad gets back into the car and sure enough I'm a pup who's nose knows that is a package for me. I could barely control my excitement. I think my unbridled joy at the thought of a Christmas surprise truly put my folks in the Christmas spirit. There's nothing that can put Christmas in someones heart like watching a loved one 's excitement and suspense over a gift. I thought we'd never get home! Finally we make it home and get inside, I told Mom to hurry and get my jacket and harness off of me now!!! I was dying to open my gift and see who had sent me a surprise Christmas gift.
I did my best to rip open that bubble wrapped package to no avail. (Mom was laughing at my attempts the entire time. Already my Christmas angel was making my one real Christmas wish come true. Earlier I had said a prayer that my family and I would all feel better by Christmas) Mom opens the mailing envelope for me and inside are two pressies wrapped in Christmas wrapping paper just for me. Mom puts the gifts on the floor and away I go ripping and scratching for all I'm worth. I know I was smiling and Mom and Dad laughing like not a one of us was sick or feeling poorly. (Of course Mom was taking pictures the entire time).
It was thanks to my Christmas Angel that the magic of the season truly was in our home and in our hearts in the midst of our flu bugs and ear infections this Christmas day.
Dear Angel you know who you are and we are so thankful that in the land of Tanner Brigade all pups go to heaven, but no pups truly die, they simply live on a different plane and become very special Christmas Angels.
We're sharing a few of those pictures my Mom snapped while I was opening my gift from my Christmas Angel, Thank you once again dear Angel.
Love, Molly and my Mom
