Molly gave her new short haircut a shake and thought to herself, "This new cut feels pretty good". Heading towards the door she decides she needs a walk through the woods to relax after a morning in town.
Molly goes down the driveway noticing how deep the golden brown leaves were. (These leaves almost reach my knees Molly thinks to herself). Looking though the forest she sees how the trees have shed their leaves; providing Mother earth with a warm blanket for the coming winter, seemingly overnight.
Winter will be here soon Molly thought, almost in unison with her thoughts a cool north breeze blows her hair into her eyes. The wind whispering, winter will be here soon.
There was no chatter from the birds in the trees as there had been on Molly's earlier walks during the summer. The woods were quiet, something else is missing Molly mused to herself, ahaa she thinks, missing was the raucous laughter from the Cicadas in the trees. They have burrowed into the ground until the coming summer. Now there was only the gentle quiet humming of the crickets.
Molly lets out a sigh as she gets closer to the hayfield. Her nose begins to wiggle with all the new smells coming from the field. Someone's been here and something is different. The little Dachshund rushes to the now empty field. "The hay bales are gone!" Molly says out loud. She smells here and there, her nose telling her everything that had gone on while she was away. Realizing the farmer had come and taken the hay to store until the cattle needed it during the coming winter months . Winter really is almost here. Now that Molly was in the middle of the field she looks around, noticing the bare trees that had once been full of the beautiful colors of fall.
It's still a wonderful day she thinks . Molly grins her happy smile enjoying the warmth of the late fall day and thinks , I don't have to stay clean now that I've had my haircut. Molly laughs as only one truly happy dog can who knows they're going to roll in the first smelly thing they can find.
Wishing all our furiends a warm day, a field to explore, and something smelly to roll in whether you've been to the groomers or not.
Love, Molly and my Mom
