Though my Mom doesn't speak of her often, she has thought of Penny many times over the years since her passing.
If you ever get into a discussion with my Mom about dogs invariably she will mention what a special place Dachshunds hold in her heart. (My Mom is a very old woman. She even gets a Senior Citizen Discount when she and Dad go out to eat). She's had many dogs during her lifetime. It's us weenie dogs that stole her heart.
Penny passed Memorial Day weekend 5 years ago. She was 14 years old. Rainbow Bridge needed an angel to devote all it's time to finding the pawfect replacement for my Angel Sister.

Now what is true is the folks put a deposit on me before I was even a week old. Angel Penny told them I was the pup she picked out just for them. She knew my Mom and Dad would never get over her passing if she'd sent them another sweet little love bug like her. So she found the wildest, most independent tom boy weenie dog on the face of the earth. She had that personality wrapped up in the fluffiest, prissiest looking outside she could find.
Add all this together and I was born Sept. 11, 2011. When I mentioned this to Mom it all came flooding back to her. She and Dad looked for me for close to 4 months before Angel Penny steered us together.

I told her Mom's health had taken an incredible turn for the better and that she'd gotten her life back. Penny and I both know when our Mom gets her life back so does my Dad. When Mom's well, she's an undeniable force of nature. You either go along willingly or get caught up in the whirlwind. BOL Angel Penny and I both smiled knowing our pawrents were once again happy, busy and content.
There's a funny thing about my Angel Sister visiting me that night as the very next day I saw Mom pulling something out from under the bed. I got closer to see what it was (as I don't see well out of one eye). Low and Behold it was a Polished Copper Smooth Coated Red Dachshund Weathervane. She'd bought it as a Birthday gift for my Dad after Penny made her journey to Rainbow Bridge.
Mom placed it on the dining room table and called my Dad to come and see. That very afternoon my family and I went to the garden store. Mom got tons of flowers for my Angel Sister Penny's Memorial Garden.
Well my furiends, Penny's Weathervane is up in her garden, and most of the flowers are planted.
I can look out my living room window seat and see her dancing in the wind with her Dachshund ears flapping in the breeze. She constantly looks my way to see if I'm watching her at play, spinning the weathervane this way and that; smiling her impish smile.
Yes indeed there are Angel's among us.
Love, Molly and my Mom
P.S. The Angel Statue and plaque is a memorial garden for my Dad's Mother. The inscription on the plaque says,
"I thought of you with love today
but that is nothing new
I thought about you yesterday
and days before that too,
I think of you in silence
...I often speak your name
All I have are memories
and your picture in a frame
Your memory is my keepsake
with which I’ll never part
God has you in His keeping
I have you in my heart."
