Training my Hooman

We pups have a close relationship with the big guy... Angel pups even more so.  (You can ask Angel Foley about that over at Small Tales). Why she talks to the big guy every day, but that's an entirely different story.

A lot of people over the years have commented on God having a special place in his heart for us pups by the common fact that our names spell each others if you flip them.  Well it's true.  Each pup is uniquely chosen to go to the forever homes that get them.  The hoomans never know this but we pups do.

I know you remember my telling you previously about my Angel Sister Penny picking me for my Mom and Dad, and the chat we had before she went ORB.  Well there was part of that conversation that I didn't share with you then.  Penny told me what special people my Mom and Dad were.  How they'd never leave me and I never had to worry about them getting rid of me for any reason.  That no matter what happened in my life time they'd be there to love me, take care of me and always make me feel safe.  All of this has over time been proven to be true.

So I should have never been shocked when I found out the next bit of information Angel Penny told me was also true.  Penny said, "That though you're going to think your Mom and Dad are perfect, they'll come a day when you as a dog see that your pawrents need to grow, stretch, and change a bit to be a better dog owner and person.  Penny said, "Molly the only way hoomans can grow and change is with a bit of fire added to their lives.  I think you're the pawfect pup for the job.  You'll know when the time is right and you'll know exactly what to do to help your folks grow".  (At the time I was a very young pup so I smiled, not realizing my angelic (literally) sister had just paid me a "back-pawed" compliment).

Dachshunds are a special breed and it takes a special kind of person to want to own one.  We are willful, incredibly tenacious surprisingly fierce and protective, and if we love you we'll love you until our dying breathe.  The thing about us sausage dogs is you can crush our hearts if you're overly harsh and aggressive.  I'm going to tell you something about my Mom you may not believe, but if you know my Mom you'll know it's the truth.  She's never raised her voice to me ever in the 5 years we've been together.  Nopes not ever.  She's also never popped my bottom...That is until the other day.

I know you all know I've recently gone blind, and then regained some of my sight back.  Well this has meant that I've gotten to go back to playing soccer and a few other things that had to stop due to my not being able to see.  I love chasing my soccer ball across the yard as well as sending it flying to Mom to chase and send back to me.  I'm a very aggressive ball player, actually I'm a Dachshund so I'm aggressive and passionate about a lot of things.

Remember my telling you my Angel Sister Penny mentioning I'd know exactly what to do to help my Mom grow as a dog owner and a person?  Well I saw the pawfect opportunity and time to "help" my Mom become a better hooman.  I didn't let my chance pass me by.

Mom rolled me my ball and I went after it with every bit of ferocity I could muster.  I mean I dove after that ball and attacked it like my life depended on it.  (Actually I attacked it like my Mom needed to see a few things that needed to change in herself. )  The ball rolled into the shrubs and I didn't miss a beat, I started attacking the shrubs as well.

Mom screamed like a banshee (and said a few words I rarely hear as well).  To add indignity on top of indignities Mom popped my bottom.  Now not only did I find this terribly confusing, but I was also hurt that she would actually physically swat me, and yell at me.  I have never in all my life seen Mom move so fast.  She dove across that yard and grabbed me up before I could have blinked an eye.  Grabbing my Doggles off my face Mom looked me over with those X-ray eyes that only a Mom has.  Brushing away a twig that was frightening close to my eye Mom told me I was never to do that again.  At this point I was still confused over why we weren't playing soccer, what the big deal was, along with What did I do that made Mom hurt me.  (Though in all honesty it was only a swat, by the same token I've never been physically struck in all my life, so this to me was a very big deal).

So you see pawfuriends, The Big Guy sends us pups to our forever family's with a plan to turn our hoomans into the people we already know they are..It might take a bit of fire in their lives to bring the things to the surface that The Big Guy and we pups know needs to be changed, but with love and patience we can train our hoomans one day at a time.  I forgave my Mom  cause that's how God made us, and on this day Mom saw that she needs to relax and have better control of her emotions regardless to (in her mind my injuring my eyes when I've only just regained some of my vision). whatever traumatic event may be going on at the time.

Fire furiends remember to add a little fire to your hoomans lives.  They'll never grow into their full potential until you do.

Love Molly and her Mom (Who's goal really is is to be as good a person as my dog already thinks I am).

You got in love trouble my friend. That is when you get in trouble because your mom loves you so much. That is what happened. The best thing about it is she is going to shower you with more love out of guilt. I tell you when you are a well loved dog it is win, win, win. And thank you for the free plug

Our Mommy (Alasandra) had to learn to be very quiet when talking to Tuiren when she first came to live here. You are so right Molly we have lots of important things to teach our people. We are so glad you got some of your sight back and can play ball again.

Thank you and your Mother for coming by and expressing your condolences on the loss of Socks.

Our parents get angriest when they see us doing something that could hurt us, like running into bushes with twigs that could poke our eyes. As we git older we finally understand that they are only trying to PROTECT us. As the saying goes, yur Mom's protective outburst hurt HER way more than it hurt you.

you're right... we have to form our humans to the people they want to be and to the people we need :o) it's true mom's are a little fearful when we do things what looks dangerous to mom's... that#s a topic we hardly can change but we try, right?

Oh Molly darlin' I hear you. My mom has been in training for 15 years...even though the ones before me tried and were somewhat successful it is a work in progress.
Mom had a good cackle at the description your mom gave of Dachshund's. You are all alike. Our mighty mini dachshund was a force to be reckoned with and he too traveled at what mom called
Dach Mach speed. Afraid of NOTHING. He got a swat once at my gpa farm when he tried to run up behind a horse to say. Mom opened the car door to put his leash on and his Dach Mach speed took over.
Hugs madi your bff

Oh you are right! We must add fire to our human's lives and I do that daily! Mom has never popped my bottom (but there has been MANY times she has wanted to, I am harder to catch because I am bigger than you are)...but..........she HAS yelled at me and used HBO words many, many times! Barks and licks and love, Dakota

Molly, what a joy for life you have. Just be careful in helping your Mom to grow that you don't hurt yourself, sweetie.

Poor Molly, that must have really crushed your feelings, and I bet your mom's feelings were crushed too. As anipals, we have to constantly stay on top of retraining our humans. i know M needs training usually once a month at least, sometimes every day for a week. You are such a cutie Molly, and i bet you can really toss that soccer ball around when you want to.,

Molly, I’m glad you didn’t hurt yourself diving into the bush. Don’t be too hard on your mom. I doubt you’ll ever teach her to worry less about you.

Our Moms really worry about us blind (and nearly blind) pups. My Mommy just about has a heart attack every time I bump into the walls or the furniture. But I just shrug it off and keep right on going. Mom is always afraid I broke my neck or something. So just consider what you got a ..... love swat! :)

Yes our peeps always have a lot to learn. Our mom sometimes has this same problem controlling her self when she sees me eating leaves and weeds. I know she just doesn't want me to eat something I shouldn't so I try to not take it too hard. (we lost our Angel Greta after she ate a toxic mushroom)

We are keeping Molly in our thoughts and prayers. If you could use a small bit of help with vet bills drop mom a note at cliodna58 at gmail dot com. Her books sales have dropped a lot since the holidays but she is still donating her royalties to canines in need even if it's a hundred bucks here and there. Abby Lab

It's a good thing you did not hurt your eyes. I think parents can be forgiven when they act out of concern and not spite.

Sounds like you really gave your mom a scare. You need to be more careful. Have fun but no injuries!
